History

Caring for the world - one soul at a time

Beginnings

Spirit Renewal Ministries (SRM), founded in 2006 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. SRM is a non-denominational ministry serving communities of faith and individuals in Canada and abroad.  SRM has provided services to churches, worshipping communities, pastors, and church leaders in Canada, USA, Curaçao, India, and East Africa. The ministry began its services in Toronto, offering weekly worship services, and pastoral ministry services to the unchurched. Since then, the ministry has moved to Kingston, ON, and continues to serve throughout southern Ontario. Today, SRM, through partners, pastors, and volunteers, serves as the hands and feet of Christ by preaching, teaching, encouraging, feeding, comforting, counselling, and caring for thousands of people at home and abroad. We also counsel the bereaved, provide marriage services, pray for the sick, feed the hungry, offer respite from the cold, and encourage people to form communities of care in all we do. TOP

Purpose

Transforming Lives - Renewing Communities, through faith in Jesus Christ.

The ultimate purpose of our ministry is to bring you the Good News of the kingdom of God made known through the life and witness of Jesus Christ.  Our prayer is that through this ministry, your life will be transformed in a powerful way, and that you will experience salvation in God through the knowledge of Christ.

We understand that compassion and love are at the heart of the gospel message and ministry.  (Isaiah 63:15).  We believe that ministry must be contextual and it must speak to your deepest needs.  It must be relevant and real.  We share God’s Word for today and today’s people.  (Mark 2:21-22)  We also understand that the power of evil is present in this world (look at all of the war, abuse, crime and hurt in this world), yet we know that God’s power of love is greater than this.  We seek ways to bring hope and relief to a broken and hurting world.  (Rom. 5:5). The Great Commission

A very important component of SRM's ministry is undertaking the great commission,

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28: 19-20.

SRM has undertaken twelve international mission trips, one to India, three to the USA, four to the island nation of Curaçao, and four to Kenya. SRM provides services to churches to help pastors and leaders grow in their capacity and competence to serve as ministers in the world-wide church of Christ. We invite leaders from all denominations to participate. Areas of teaching include: church growth and renewal, discipleship, evangelism, worship leadership, Biblical scholarship, church dynamics, theology of ministry, and conflict management. TOP

Bible Distribution

SRM distributes hundreds of Bibles to rural churches throughout western Kenya. Bibles are sourced from the Kenya Bible Society in languages of Luo, Kalinjin, Kiswahili and English. The program has made a tremendous difference in the lives of hundreds of families. Many of the recipients live on an income of one USD per day, and would never be able to afford the luxury of owing a Bible. the program is supported by individuals and churches in all reagions served by SRM. We Seek

To Grow in Faith

Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live. (John 11:25)

To Live Out the Great Commandment

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbour as yourself." Luke 10:27

To Share the Good News of the Gospel Through:

Proclamation — of the good news throughout the world (Mark 16: 15).
Witness — by being responsive and spontaneous in seeking justice and reconciliation (Micah 6:8).
Dialogue — by being willing to explore vulnerable edges of others and self, and trusting God for the outcome (Isaiah 26:4).
Liberation — through the liberation of that which dehumanizes, limits, or coerces (Luke 4:18).

We Believe in the Power of:

The Gospel

For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek (Romans: 1:16).

The Holy Spirit

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).

Christ

‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.’ So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me (2 Cor. 12:9).

Prayer

‘Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive’ (Matthew 21:22).

Healing

One day, while he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting nearby (they had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem); and the power of the Lord was with him to heal (Luke 5:17).

Faith

Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, ‘Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.’ And instantly the woman was made well. (Matthew 9:22).

Renewal

He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5).

The Resurrection

With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all (Acts: 4:33).
